Gardening and volunteering

  1. Gardening opportunities
    1. Individual beds – one person, family or group of friends. These people garden their bed and reap the harvest. They share a $60/year water fee, to be paid up front
    2. Community beds – a set of contiguous beds where people from the community garden together. They share in the cost of water, fertilizer and seeds.
    3. Student beds – reserved for students from schools, youth organizations and others (home schooling, etc.).
    4. Food bank beds – There can be some beds set aside for raising food for food pantries. The gardeners in these beds will need to pay for water - $5/ month per bed.
    5. If you are interested please email westburycommunitygarden@gmail.com

      • Working the compost bins (the compost team will lead this effort to make sure it is done to their specification)

      • Watering the orchard, blackberry patch, habitat garden, north forty trees and aisles
      • Weeding the pathway from the street to the pavilion (dig these weeds out please; they are spreading)

      • Taking home recycle bins and trash bags (if everyone takes one item, it will make the job of removing trash and recycle easy)
      • Placing concrete blocks as the pad for a container shed (thanks to Diane and Dita for getting the blocks for us)
      • Adding more concrete to the driveway entrance (Samuel will lead this effort, but he needs help this time)
      • Helping each other put up trellises in the beds for long beans, cucumbers, tomatoes and pole beans

The way the work days will work is for everyone to take the initiative in getting things done - don't wait for someone else to dole out the work. Volunteers are welcome to join us.

Thanks to all of you for helping to make the Westbury Community Garden the best garden in the city, with the best gardeners.
