PSUK Judo Training Weekend Saturday 25th to Sunday 27th November 2011

This very successful weekend saw members of PSUK judo and our friends in
the Welsh Judo Association (WJA) come together at the Sport Wales National
Centre in Cardiff (formally the Welsh Institute of Sport), this was the second of
PSUK’s training weekends for 2012 ending the 2012 calendar on a high note.

Friday saw the judo players meeting in the Olympic dojo for randori; this
involved over 80 judoka from PSUK, WJA including guests from France who
had entertained a PSUK team at a recent Paris tournament.  The randori
taken by PSUK National Coaches Chris Hunt ,Andy Moss and Darren Dean
saw a very high level of judo being performed, ending at 8pm when those in
residence for the weekend enjoyed an excellent supper at the nearby Holiday
Inn.

Saturday commenced at 10am with a high quality technical coaching session
lead by Craig Ewers the Welsh National Coach, it is the policy of PSUK Judo
to bring internationally recognised coaching to our members, Craig certainly

British Police and Wales had everyone loudly supporting their teams, with filled this request. Following lunch a home international team match between
Wales being the eventual winner, British Police were certainly weakened by
players being absent through injury  and duty commitments , but that takes
nothing away from a very good victory by an ever strengthening  Welsh team.
Thanks here to Andy Grand PSUK Tournament Director for running the team
event, supported by Mitchell Allen  from Wales with Graham Bayley refereeing
to his usual high standard.

A further quality technical session followed the team event, again taken by
Craig to whom PSUK are indebted for his high standard of demonstration.
The day finished with another opportunity for the players to practise their
existing and newly learnt skills in randori.

Saturday evening saw old and new friends enjoying dinner at the Holiday Inn
swapping stories of the day, making memories which will be remembered long
after the bruises have faded.

Sunday morning gave those with any energy left the opportunity to progress
through their judo grade with success at Kyu and Dan grade.

A very enjoyable and successful weekend coming from the joint partnership of
PSUK Judo and the Welsh Judo Association proving once again the wisdom
of forming the Memorandum of Understanding signed between PSUK Judo
and the WJA.
The only downside of the weekend was the absence of Alan Petherbridge
MBE 9th
Dan who is recovering from a virus, Alan is a PSUK Honorary
National Coach and the Technical Adviser  for the WJA ,a former Olympian
and European Champion, Alan’s support to Welsh  and Police judo remains
truly valued .
