For players between the ages of 5 and 7 inclusive the Welsh Judo Association has a seperate membership and grading system.

The membership fee for these players is only £12 instead of the £19 Junior fee. The family discount of £2 per member also applies.

Players receive a standard licence and an additional Dragon Club Membership Card.

This is in five seperate levels and each sections gives details of practical and theory requirements for each level.

The players is examined by their own coach and awarded a purple stripe and certificate for passing each section.

When the player has passed all 5 stages they are entitled to wear a purple belt. When a player reaches the age of 8 they join the normal grading system. If they have achieved purple belt status they keep their belt and attach red stripes on it until they have reached yellow belt status.
