This is an evolving list of stuff you should know / do / get / etc. for Couchsurfers coming to Laos, focusing mainly on Vientiane (since that is where we live.) If you are not a couchsurfer, you might still find this information useful. You might also consider joining couchsurfing.com. It is the only way to travel if you ask us. A lot of the basic site-seeing stuff is already in the guidebooks, so we'll try to cover more obscure ground here, but some things listed in the guidebooks are worth mentioning here, since this site is intended to get you acquainted quickly with Vientiane and the few other places we have been in Laos. We just moved here a few months ago, so we are by no means experts. That said, we have learned a few things that the guidebooks might not mention. If you cannot find a host here- there are only a few hosts at the moment-not to worry, guesthouses are cheap and plentiful. You might even save money since I am pretty sure most of the hosts do not live downtown and tuk tuks back and forth can get expensive as they regularly overcharge falang (foreigners.)
