We Strive for Equality!
The term "pro-life" is not specific enough...
We are pro-child-equality.

Fundamentally, the ending of child's life within the womb is an issue of equality.  A child in the womb does not have equal rights with you and I, until the moment they escape the womb.  And, just as a fight was required to gain equal rights for the Native Americans, slaves, women, children... despite discrimination based upon ethnicity, "color", sex, age...  we must currently fight for the equal rights of the
child in the womb.

Note: It seems the current discrimination is usually based upon the child's Size, Level of development, location in the womb or Environment, and Degree of dependency (SLED).  Once again it seems we have created artificial criteria by which to subjugate fellow human beings.  It is very sad!

As many are aware, the Declaration of Independence, penned in 1776, states:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

Now consider slavery for a moment, abolished in 1865.  It took us, as a nation, 89 years and a civil war to actualize our own words which proclaimed the equal right of "all men" to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.  And now, in a sad repetition of history, we are once again not recognizing our own proclamation of equal rights to all men.  Back then it was slaves who lacked equal rights.  Today, it is children within the womb that lack equal rights.

What is worse, today we don't just have the Declaration of Independence slapping us in the face.  Consider excerpts from two recent proclamations we have agreed to as a nation within the last century:

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948.

"Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family...  Therefore THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY proclaims THIS UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS as a common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations...
Article 3. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person."

Declaration of the Rights of the Child, 1959.
"1 The child shall enjoy all the rights set forth in this Declaration. Every child, without any exception whatsoever, shall be entitled to these rights, without distinction or discrimination on account of race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status, whether of himself or of his family.
2 The child shall enjoy special protection, and shall be given opportunities and facilities, by law and by other means, to enable him to develop physically, mentally, morally, spiritually and socially in a healthy and normal manner and in conditions of freedom and dignity. In the enactment of laws for this purpose, the best interests of the child shall be the paramount consideration.
...
4 The child... shall be entitled to grow and develop in health; to this end, special care and protection shall be provided both to him and to his mother, including adequate pre-natal [care] and post-natal care. The child shall have the right to adequate nutrition, housing, recreation and medical services.
...
8 The child shall in all circumstances be among the first to receive protection and relief.
9 The child shall be protected against all forms of neglect, cruelty and exploitation..."

Need I say more?

As a society, we've got the dots... we just have not connected them yet!  The right of the child to life and protection is already clearly declared! Yet, we haven't acknowledged this right yet because we currently declare the child in the womb "not equal".

Thus, when a child's life is legally ended within the womb, on the surface it may appear to be about "LIFE", but when we look deeper it is an issue of inequality.  "Pro-life" may miss the mark.  We are pro-child-equality!

Being pro-child-equality means:
  • ALL children should have equality including children in the womb.
  • NO child should be discriminated against including children in the womb.
  • ALL children should be protected under the law including children in the womb.

Pro-child-equality!
