New Riders are always welcome. Hi Everyone, I hope you had a good winter. It's time to get that bike out and get ready for the new season. We'll schedule the first official group Wednesday Night Ride for June 6th, but hopefully, everyone will be getting in some riding in decent weather before that. Suggestion for 2012: We have many fixed routes with maps that we've ridden in the past. I still enjoy these routes, but new routes are always fun. Bill Trager has lead us on some new, excellent routes, and I'm hoping that others will share some of their favorite routes also. I'm proposing that people volunteer to be a Wednesday Night leader, and introduce us to new routes or lead variations of older routes. The responsibilities would be very simple and the requirements minimal so there really isn't much work involved to encourage all of you to consider volunteering your favorite route. The leader would pick the starting point and route and be there to lead that night. He/She would notify me of the starting point so I could post it on this site by Sunday prior to the Wednesday Night Ride. The only requirements would be: The starting point is an easy drive from our area (Sheboygan/Plymouth) so people can get there by 6:15 after working that day. The starting point has adequate parking to accommodate the cars without disturbing private property. The route is reasonable for safe use by a group of road bikers (usually 10 to 20 bikers) - mainly paved roads and minimal traffic. The route is of appropriate length to finish before dark - usually 23 to 28 miles. (up to 30 miles while the sun sets after 8:30pm) Ideally the volunteer leader would have several maps of the route to distribute before the ride so we could split into fast and slow groups if desired. But the leader could do a "true group ride" without maps where no one gets dropped. We often do this anyway so that's not a big issue. We just don't want anyone to get lost or have bike trouble without help available. The leader could also pick the "eating establishment of the night." Please be sure that the restaurant does take separate checks as that is far more convenient than trying to divide a check fairly among a large group. If no one volunteers to be a leader for the scheduled night, I'll post one of our regular rides. If several volunteers offer different routes, we'll do them in order received. If significant problems occur, we'll go back to the old system. Any volunteers for the June 6th Wednesday Night Ride? Contact me at rog.jane.klettke@gmail.com. Thanks New Riders, please read the Wednesday Night Ride Rules Note to all riders:
