JOB TITLE: Care Assistant
RESPONSIBLE TO: Matron/Manager
AIMS OF POSITION
-
To actively participate with other members of Staff in enabling Residents to make decisions and choices.

To actively participate with other members of Staff in meeting the personal needs of Residents in such a way as to respect the dignity of the individual and to promote independence.

To actively participate with other members of Staff in meeting social needs of the Residents.
-
To help in the care of the Residents’ physical environment and in the general day to day activities of the Home.
RESPONSIBILITIES

To assist Residents who need help with dressing, undressing, toileting, bathing and feeding.

To provide adequate and appropriate care for Residents confined to bed.

To take appropriate levels of care when handling property belonging to Residents.

To help Residents who have mobility problems and other physical disabilities. To assist in the use, maintenance and care of personal aids and equipment.

To promote the mental and physical well being of Residents through talking to them, taking them out, sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreation.

To ensure that unnecessary damage to the building and contents is not caused by careless movement of Residents property – wheelchairs etc.

To make and change beds, empty commodes, tidy rooms and undertake designated cleaning duties.

To inspect, launder and repair Residents’ clothing.

To assist in the setting of tables and trays, preparing, serving and clearing away meals.

To answer call bells, the doors and the telephone and greet visitors.

To read reports, take part in Staff and Residents’ meetings and in training activities as directed.

To make written observations of the Residents.

To report any changes in Residents’ conditions to senior staff (RGN, Deputy Manager or Manager).

To attend mandatory training courses relevant to the position as directed by the Manager.

To undertake such other duties as may be mutually determined from time to time.
