Winter Storm Information - January 31, 2011

The City of Westfield is expected to receive up to 10 inches of snow with an accumulation of ice starting Tuesday, February 1, 2011.  Tune in to local television, radio and media outlets for more information regarding this storm. Power is expected to go down during this storm and could be unavailable for an estimated three days.
The City wants to advise all Citizens of Westfield that the City Emergency Operations Plan has been activated as of January 31, 2011. This Plan allows for safeguarding our community, increasing our response capability and informing our citizens of information regarding the upcoming winter storm.  Please read the following to learn more about this plan:
 
1.       There is a shelter plan in place for residents should there be a need.  The fire department will not be a shelter.   For updated shelter information, please visit http://www.westfieldready.org/ or call 317-804-3150. 
2.       The Community and Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) have been activated to assist during this time.
3.       ALWAYS USE CAUTION when using alternate sources of heating. 
4.       Keep fire extinguishers on hand.
5.       Know ahead of time what you should do to help elderly or disabled friends, neighbors or employees.
6.       STAY AWAY FROM POWER LINES.
7.       Take steps to keep water from freezing in your home.
8.       Have a charged cell phone with back up battery!
9.       Dress for the winter!  If going outside, wear several layers of loose fitting, lightweight; warm clothing rather than one layer of heavy clothing.  The outer garments should be tightly woven and water repellant.
10.   Stay off the roads!  Travel only when necessary.
11.   Wear mittens, which are warmer than gloves.
12.   Wear a hat.
13.   Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect your lungs.
14.   Keep food and water on hand.
