Westfield to Construct a New Roadway Behind Village Park Plaza

posted Sep 8, 2010 9:52 AM by Tammy Havard
The City of Westfield has accepted bids for an east access road located between Greyhound Pass and 151st Street behind the Village Park Shopping Center.  “Local residents are familiar with this road as the private access behind Marsh and Wal-Mart which provides a short-cut between Greyhound Pass and 151st Street,” says Kurt Wanninger, Director of Public Works for the City of Westfield.  Once completed, this new public road will provide better access and mobility around the Village Park Shopping Center.  This road is being constructed to ensure the shopping center remains viable during the Major Moves/US 31 Freeway Upgrades.

Construction will be phased in over the next 12 months to ensure full access to the shopping center.  This fall and winter, construction will consist of utility relocations, storm sewer installation, and some paving on 151st Street between Thatcher and Oak Roads, with the exception of the area on 151 Street where a round-about will be constructed.  In 2011, this east access road will be completed along with the round-about at 151st Street, and a new entrance to the Cool Creek Park.

In conjunction with this project, multi-use paths will be installed to provide better mobility and for connection between the Natalie Wheeler Trail in Westfield, the Cool Creek Park and the Cool Creek Trial South of 146th Street into Carmel.

At this time, the “East Access Road” is the project name; a final road name has not been selected for this new road.  If anyone would like to submit a suggestion to the Mayor, please contact City Hall 317-804-3001 with a proposed name and explanation.
