The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch for Hamilton County from Tuesday July 19 through at least Saturday July 23. Temperatures will be in the 90s with humidity in the mid to upper 70s. The heat indices for the week will range from 105 to 110 degrees from late morning to early evening each day.
Children and the elderly are especially susceptible to extreme temperatures and should take special precautions during this time. • Stay indoors in an air conditioned place
• Drink plenty of fluids, and eat lightly. • Limit physical activity. Plan required outings or exertion for early morning or after dark. • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light colored clothing. When outdoors, wear a hat or use an umbrella. • Don’t leave children, disabled persons or pets in a parked car – even briefly. Check on elderly neighbors that may live alone. • Use window shades to keep the heat out. If no air conditioning, open windows to let air circulate. A cool shower or bath will cool you down faster than an air conditioner. Be on the lookout for signs of heat exhaustion including dizziness, headache, muscle cramps, weakness, nausea or vomiting. Get help immediately if you suffer from these symptoms as they may be a sign of heat exhaustion: confusion, unconsciousness, chest pains and shortness of breath. Call 9-1-1 if necessary. The City will be monitoring the situation and further information will be forthcoming as the situation warrants.
