The City of Westfield has accepted bids for the 2010 Resurfacing and Road Maintenance Program. This program consists of various road improvements including shoulder widening, deep patching and resurfacing two road segments.  The two roadways that will be resurfaced are 161st Street from US 31 to Springmill Road and South Union from SR32 to David Brown Drive (169th Street).

The 2010 Resurfacing and Road Maintenance Program was developed from the recently completed Road Maintenance Improvement Plan (MIP). This MIP was implemented to assess the condition of all city roadway infrastructure and identify cost effective alternatives for extending the life of roadways and identifying strategic areas for improvement. All roadways, including subdivision streets, were rated on the condition of the pavement, shoulder/curb condition, line striping, sidewalk condition, ditches and culverts or storm system.  This MIP will be updated annually to include changing road conditions.

The cost of 2010 Resurfacing and Road Maintenance Program is estimated at $690,404 and is being funded from the Motor Vehicle Highway fund, Local Roads and Streets and the CCD Fund. "The City is committed to maintaining and improving the City of Westfield roadways," says Kurt Wanninger, Director of Public Works for the City of Westfield. "Over the coming years, the City will continue to maintain and upgrade roadways in our community," says Wanninger.

Construction is set to begin this month and is expected to be completed in November.
