The training is conducted by the National Weather Service, in conjunction with emergency management officials, and are about two hours long.
Sessions, which are free and open to the public, cover fundamental information for storm spotters, including safety and identification of weather features and how to turn in their reports.
Trained storm spotters are the National Weather Service's eyes on the ground to what's really going on out there because the National Weather Service can only see what's on the radar.
