SHELL/NST JOURNALISM WORKSHOP ON GLOBAL CLIMATE CHANGE - 3 MAY 2008                                            (posted 3 May 2008)

4 students from SMTP, accompanied by Madam Maimunah bt Mat participated in a one-day Journalism Workshop on Global Climate Change held at the Grand Continental Hotel on 3 May 2008. The workshop, organised by the New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad and Shell Malaysia, was part of efforts to enlighten students and teachers of the devastating effects of global warming. Over 80 students and teachers from 14 schools in Pahang attended this  educational workshop. Calling themselves “The Clean Bots”,  Wong Wei Wen, Brandon Lim Wei Juin, Leong Jia Yun and Chok Wai Nam were provided with information on different aspects of global warming and were assigned to express themselves on the matter through a journalism perspective.

When asked by a reporter for his comments, Chok Wai Nam said people must be more passionate towards the environment if they wanted to help reduce global warming.
"It is scary as one never knows what could happen to the Earth in the next generation," he said after the screening of the documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, featuring former US vice-president Al Gore. For  full report  in the NST read here.
