Background

Water and Development Research Group, Helsinki University of Technology (HUT), is responsible for this project. The project is funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Finland, as part of Finland’s continuous support to Global Water Partnership’s Central Asia and Caucasus (CACENA) program. The first phase of the project include publishing a book with specific chapters on the water issues of Central Asia (particular focus on Aral sea basin), based partly on the  Water and Development Research Group’s course on Global Water Problems in 2007 and partly invited expert input. Book will be published both print and online as a TKK Water and Development publication series. All chapters should be ready by the end of July 2008. All manscripts will be preer reviewed  by two anonymous reviewers  in August and September 2008. The book will be published officially  at an international Conference "7th Annual GWP- CACENA Stakeholders Conference" to be held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan 25-27 November 2008.

  

Aims of the Book

 

The key aims are : 1) to promote and create long term synergy among Finnish and Regional young water professionals through knowledge sharing; 2) gain knowledge about IWRM concept, water related development goals and challenges of effective and efficient water development and management in the region.
