Conference Location

The luxurious, but affordable Semiahmoo Resort and Spa has been reserved for WDA 2009. This beautiful sea-side resort is set at the end of a mile-long sandy spit. Rooms are reasonably priced, lunches served outside overlooking Mt. Baker will be included with your registration and the picnic will be on the beach. In addition to a full week of wildlife disease continuing education and meeting with colleagues, you’ll want to be sure to make time for sunrise and sunset beach walks, wildlife watching from the grounds of the resort, whale watching, kayaking, salmon fishing, and hiking in the North Cascades wilderness.Click here for a map of the resort location.

Reservations can be made by following this link.

Expect August to have generally good weather. This time of year will bring average temperatures of 72°F / 52°F (22°C / 11°C), although the records for this area 90°F and 29 °F (32.2°C / -1°C).

Airport information

For guests that will be flying in, there are two options:

Seattle - Tacoma Airport is located about 130 miles (200 km) south of Semiahmoo Resort and Spa.

Vancouver International Airport is located about 40 miles (60 km) north of Semiahmoo Resort and Spa across the Canadian / US border.  Please note that August 3 is a holiday in Canada, consequently there may be delays crossing the border.  There is more information below.

It is possible to fly from Seattle airport to Bellingham airport. The airline is Alaska Air through their regional carrier Horizon Air. Schedules and costs can be examined at www.alaskaair.com. If you know someone at the conference who will have a car and willing to meet you in Bellingham, it would be convenient to get a ride to Semiahmoo with them.

Ground Transportation

Rental Cars

The primary recommendation is to rent a car in either Vancouver or Seattle for transit to the Semiahmoo Resort.

Highway Approaches

Use this Google Map to plan a route to Semiahoo Resort and Spa. All major rental car companies are available at either airport.

Shuttles

“Quick Shuttle” is an airport shuttle from Vancouver airport. It drops off at Bellingham airport. The fare is $28 one way and $49 round trip. Their phone number is 1-800-665-2122 or online at www.quickcoach.com. Bellingham airport is about 20 miles from Semiahmoo Resort. It is possible to get a taxi from Bellingham to Semiahmoo for approximately $50-60. Once again, if you know someone at the conference who will have a car and willing to meet you in Bellingham, it would be convenient to get a ride to Semiahmoo with them.

Bellair” is the airport shuttle from Seattle airport. It will drop off and pick up at the Semiahmoo resort front door. The fare is $60 round trip + $50 fuel surcharge per party. So if three passengers are travelling at the same time they would share the surcharge. So if travelling individually it would be $60 + $50 surcharge. One way would be $34 fare and $20 surcharge per party.
