November 4, 2006Hello everyone, For those that did not come with us, the team went to UCLA to take part in the Chinese American Environmental Conference. Whee...that pizza afterwards was good, huh?
-Marco (p.s. the thing in my mouth is the animal we were talking about: the aplaca) November 1, 2006Marco speaking! In case all of you forgot, we went over the first part of SECTION III of Super Quiz today, and had a nice friendly buzzer game...C Congrats to Vidit for winning, lol.... In any case, keep reading and keep studying! Competition is only months away! Homework for today:Vocab words for Super Quiz! October 16, 2006SPECIAL NOTICE: Practices shall no longer be held on Mondays until further notice! I repeat: no more practice on Mondays until further notice! That is all. October 12, 2006Marco here! Sorry for the lack of updates...school and life has been a bit hectic lately. In any case, today we viewed the speech presentations when I recorded you guys! Wasn't that fun, people? Recap of things to consider: 1) Am I interested in what I am talking about? 2)Does it reveal to the audience the type of person that I am/shows my personality? 3)Do I feel comfortable speaking about my topic? There you have it, folks. I will be holding special one-on-one sessions with each of you to discuss your speeches and where it could use improvement. Homework for today:None! Enjoy your minimum day and Homecoming! October 3, 2006We went through the art presentation and I gave you a quick study today. Expect those mostly for the super quiz. It's sooper fun when you get competitive! We'll start having more fun games on Fridays, and I'll try my best not to be late! =D Homework for today:Art analysis handouts due Tuesday October 10. October 2, 2006Hi Guys, We were very productive, weren't we... In any case, remember that those Interview profiles need to be in on Tuesday. Luckily for you, Hong pointed out that Tuesday could very well mean Tuesday at 11:59 p.m., so if that's what you wish (or need), then take advantage of the opportunity. Here is the schedule for the presentations: Friday: Regina, Ricky, Chris, Justin, Tsung, Joella Monday: Everyone Else. Heh.. Have fun with these presentations! Remember which artwork you were assigned (because I sure as heck don't) Okay then. As a side note...speech delivering has been postponed. I realize that you guys need more time to practice...so more on that later on. Homework for today:Just work on those art presentations. I'll give you all of your speech feedback on Wednesday. September 29, 2006Marco here! Today, we had a tiny taste of the Interview portion. For those that do not have the handout, I will add it to the assignments page momentarily. If you were not here today, it is your responsibility to catch up by reading the handout. Reminder, the groups that you were in today is your "official" interview group for the coming weeks. You are to network with one another, because soon, we'll have a little competition, and you can bet that there will be a very nice prize! Homework for today:Create a profile on yourself! The format is yours to decide, but remember what I asked for: 1) Information on what you've done over the summer 2) What you are involved in at school 3) Who your role model is These are the additional questions: 4) What do you consider to be the most profound moment of your life? 5) What do you think is the greatest problem facing people today?
I want at least a half page typed response on each of these, single spaced, twelve point font. Have them ready for me on Tuesday. Okay guys, take care! Remember that you also have those speech rough drafts due! If you have any issues, email me...
Otherwise...get cracking! September 28, 2006Hey guys, Marco here! Today, we went over the elements of the speech portion of the competition, and had a lot of practice in there, too! A little healthy competition never hurt anybody, right? Except for maybe me of course...some of your speeches made my head hurt (yeah, you know who you are). Remember! Next week, I'm bringing my camcorder so that I can record all of you on video! Seeing yourself giving a speech is the best tool for success. Homework for today:Write your first draft for your speech topic. It can be your choice what it will be about. Email your draft to me at marco.mayuga@gmail.com before the end of Saturday (i.e. midnight) so I can give you feedback the following week! This is an assignment and is worth a whopping 25 points people! So do it! September 27, 2006Today I went over the background for Pearl S. Buck and the Elements of Fiction. Make sure to keep those handouts! We'll be referring to those often. If you need a handout click on "Assignments" and there will be link for you to download it. The books aren't in yet, but you are free to get your own copy via the library or buy it for yourself. Buying it isn't neccessary! The books ordered will be yours to keep. The Good Earth Homework for today:Student information and agreement form due Friday! -Donna
