Who I am

I grow up in a small village of Eastern China, which is surrounded by a beautiful forest, a meandering creek, and a lot of bamboos. When I was a little boy, I often herd sheep, duck and goose along the creek, lying in the grass, reading a book. That was the happiest time I ever had. However, with the rapid growth of population and economy, the natural system was rapidly destroyed. But I am sure this will only be a short phase in the long history, and the beautiful sight will be recovered soon. So I have been focusing on ecological improvement study after entering Lanzhou University. During 2005~2008, I studied desertification process in the Yellow River source area in Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Now, I am a graduate student of SUNY ESF. I am now mainly studying meander rivers, hyporheic exchange, and will focus on applying these knowledge on river restoration projects. I am a rookie in this field, but I feel I am becoming more and more interested in this topic.  As we all know, about 70% of the earth's surface is covered by water. Most ancient civilizations were originated along big rivers, most populated areas are near water. Thus, I really hope to improve our understanding on the basic knowledge of rivers and make our world better and better.

On this web page, I will post my work, including lab experiments, field experiments, model works, and some feelings during my research. If you have any questions or suggestions on my research and my English expression, you are really welcome to contact me or leave comments.
