Ovid is crawling a lot faster now. You can really tell that he has the hang out it. At sushi night on Friday, he decided to chase Alex and Maria's cat, Pi. He gets really excited and takes a "pouncing" stance when he gets closer to his goal. It is super cute. He is also getting a lot more vocal. He loves to growl at people, toys and himself (in the mirror) and he also babbles/sings in the car. I can't believe our little boy is growing so fast. Just last night, Tim and I were talking about what it was like to see him on the ultrasound for the first time. Wow! What a difference six months makes.
This weekend, we are going to Noah's 1st birthday. While Ovid is somewhat oblivious to our plans, I think he will have a good time with the other babies. I can't wait.
I keep meaning to go out and buy a video camera, pictures only show so much. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. I NEED to do it before he gets much bigger, but alas, I am a scatterbrain and the budget can only stretch so far on short notice. :P

Today, we had a family work day and revamped the front yard. The grass is cut, the hedges/shrubs are trimmed, the shutters are painted and our plain white door has been transformed into Bijou Red. Before too
much longer, we will have a yard ready to go for Ovid to play in. I
can't wait!
Now, on to the fruits of our labor...Brownies!

Yesterday, Tim and I went on a picnic at the top floor of the Capitol. We met up with a few other moms and kids from town and everyone had a great time. Ovid loved looking out of the windows, and our veggie sub and flatbread were delish. I really enjoy having so much more time with Tim, and spending time with other moms makes me really long for staying at home full-time rather than the current flexish work schedule I have.
After the lovely picnic and some play time downtown at the fountain, we attempted to locate a matching shower bar for the our remodled bathroom. Alas, no such luck, but I did find an awesome dress! We returned home, dress in hand to find a package in the mail. Yay for Sephora and fantastic presents!

Today Papa is pulling a double at the Fire Station in Jefferson. It was been a slow day so far, but I'm still missing Aila and Ovid very much. Last Saturday the family went out to McClay Gardens State Park to cheer me during my first triathlon of 2010. I raced in the Red Hills Triathlon, and had a blast. I was especially happy to have my wife and son their to encourage me through the whole race. Later this month we will be taking Ovid on his first trip to Disney World! This will be in honor of Mommy's Birthday. Aila is turning 23 this year, my how the years go by. We are all very excited and are looking forward to a great time. Our little man turns 5 months on the 21st and he has gotten so big since we first brought him home. He has not only gotten bigger since then, but has also developed more. He can now sit up with a little help, roll in just about any way he wants, and has taken to solid foods very well. He really enjoys sweet potatoes, squash, and rice cereal, and feeding time has become quite the adventure. Ovid enjoys himself and Aila and I have a lot of fun. I can't wait to see them tomorrow. Just 15 more hours and be on my way home...

One busy day. Wow, today was one heck of a day for the whole family. After waking up and getting all clean, the Rawlins Family head over to the Doc's office so that Ovid can have his four month check-up and get some S-H-O-T-S (if we spell it out it's not as bad). Ovid does remarkably well and is very brave. To celebrate we head over to TJ Max and pick out some new items for our bathroom project. Ovid helps out, too. Afterward, we all head back home were Ovid gets a little much needed R&R. While our little man is sawing logs, Momma & Poppa get a little more work done on their bathroom. We've decided that if it's our bathroom it ought to be one we can really enjoy. So, we're redoing it; all of it. Now that our bathroom walls have a fresh new coat of paint, we all lay down for a sweet (but brief) nap, and now it is time to get ready for pictures. Momma gets dressed, and Poppa clothes Ovid, Poppa gets dressed and Momma finishes clothing Ovid. We all get out of the door just in time to make it to our 4 o'clock appointment. We get a lot of pictures taken and few even come out all right. The Rawlins Family finishes up their day with a nice walk around the mall, and little drive back home. The Doc informed us earlier today that Ovid is ready to start solids, whenever we are; so once we get back home we decide to give it a try. Ovid is very receptive at first, but alas, it is already past 6:30 and the weight of the day is upon our sleepy little man, and he starts to get a little frustrated with this new and different way of eating his evening grub. Now it really is time for bed, so we clean him up, feed him (proper), and now he's getting his last story for the day. With any luck this will lead to bed for our very brave and busy little boy.

It's almost Valentine's Day and we got Ovid's spring pictures in the mail a few days ago. He is too cute! The spring pictures were baseball themed. It is nearly impossible to find cute boy clothes for any holiday, those crazy girl babies have the market cornered! I finally loaded picasa onto the new computer, so I can update the photos on the opening page. Also, FSU baseball starts in the next few weeks and we can't wait to go. We will have miss Fan Day this Saturday since Tim and I are both working, but we have scheduled around a few games later in the season.
Well, I'm off to update those pictures!

Ovid Grows
My boy had his 2 month check up at the doctor's yesterday and he's doing really well. The doctor said he has a strong grip and very developed motor skills and cordination, for his age. He is 12 lbs 4oz, and 23in tall. Poor Ovid also had to get several vaccinations at the doctor's visit which he was not to keen on getting. I understand that getting our son vaccinated is in his best interest, however that doesn't make it easier to watch. Aila and I held his hands and comforted him while he was getting them done, but he still got really worked up. Happily though, today is a new day and we won't have to worry about our next batch of shots for another 2 months.
Today I'm at work and Aila and Ovid are home, I miss them a whole lot, but keeping busy helps keep my mind off of it. This upcoming week is going to be really tough. I addition to my regular work schedule I'm working for LCEMS 4 days next week, but if I can get through next week, work shouldn't be to bad after that. |

Happy New Year! Well hear were are, 2010, and what a year it promises to be. Aila went back to work for the first time today, for about 5 hours, giving Ovid and I some quality father-son time. I have to say that it was a little weird not having Aila around for five hours, but I can't complain as I know it was much harder on her, being the longest time she's ever sent away from our son. Speaking of work I've got the next three shifts off, which equals a little more than a week and half, but it will be time well spent since tomorrow I start my orientation for my new second job. I'll be working as an EMT for Leon County EMS. I'm really excited about the chance to gain more experience as an EMT as well as earning the extra money that comes with getting 2nd job. I am a little nervous about tomorrow, but I'm sure it'll be a great experience. Of course, with Aila returning to work and me picking up a second job, I'm really concerned about the amount of time we'll be spending away from Ovid. He grows so much every week that the idea of spending another day every week away seems really scary. In that case my #1 resolution for the new year will be not to go over board with work and let it get in the way of spending time with my family. I'm really looking forward to bringing out the best in this year; wish me luck tomorrow!

Days go by So here we are, Ovid is quickly approaching his two week birthday and things are still going good. He has been eating quite well, with an appetite comparable to an industrial furnace. I'm excited to see how much weight he's gained at the next doctor's appointment. Sleeping for him is still much much better then sleep for either Aila or I, but I keep reminding myself that he's only a baby once so I ought to enjoy it will it lasts. Besides we've worked out a new approach were one of us will stay up for the first part of the night, and the other will stay up the second. It's a little nicer that way since when you do sleep, it is for more than 30 minutes at a time. Speaking of time, I'm amazed at how fast it has gone by, it seems like we just got home from the hospital yesterday, but alas, time has marched on and I will be going back to work soon. I'm a little excited and a little nervous at the idea of going back to work. I have complete faith in Aila, but taking care of Ovid has taken so much energy from both of us, how she'll muster the strength to care for our son while I'm away is surely a mother's secret. With work on the mind, I'm successfully starting a second job (part-time) as an EMT with our local EMS. This morning I stopped by HR and picked up some paper work to get filled out, before my starting date (1/8/10). The benifits of this new job are layered, it'll mean more experiance as an EMT and extra money, but it'll also mean more exposure into EMS and maybe even inspiration to become a paramedic one day... Today was big day for the family. Ovid, Aila, and I took a trip out to the tree farm and picked out our Christmas Tree for Ovid's first Christmas. It was a lot of fun and something we want to grow into a fun tradition for us every year. We also got to put scavenge the house for our holiday decorations and put our tree up. The location of the tree has led us to do some rearranging to the living room, that I feel has made the room better organized and more efficient. It felt good to improve the room; still there's much work to be done.
*side note- it appears I saved this under Aila's name by accident...oops

Daddy's Corner is open for business! While Ovid is sleeping, Aila and I decided to take the time to expand Ovid's website. In addition to the home page, we've added a "Milestones" page, were you can see some of the big events that are happening in his life, and we've added the "Daddy's Corner" page, a journal page were I can record my day to day thoughts and ideas on raising my boy. Ovid is doing really well right now. He's been getting plenty of sleep, and has had a healthy appetite; both of which are vital to proper development. I've also been reading and singing to him everyday, sometimes when he's awake and sometimes not. He doesn't understand what I'm saying, but I've read and been told, that doing this helps him to both bond with me and develop mentally, in ways that can help him learn to speak and instill an interest in reading. On the down side I think I may have read every children's book he have for him, at least twice, and some others six or seven times. I don't think that matters to him very much, in fact he may even enjoy the repetition, but personally I wouldn't mind a little more variety. Maybe when I get paid again, we can pick up some more books for him. As the days go by, I have noticed that Ovid is getting more alert when he is awake. This morning in fact, we had set up a little kid's mirror by him that he focused on for several minutes, and even tried to touch. Watching him slowly become more and more aware is an amazing thing. Aila and I have a beautiful baby and I think he's calling me...

Ovid is terribly cute!
