I guess I’ll get this page started with a little review on the REI Stormproof Matches. You can see from the picture that they are a bit bigger than the standard waterproof matches (sometimes called boat matches). They burn for about 10 seconds, which you can see in the video attached at the bottom. I also wanted to test how they would burn when wet so I lit one and put it underwater. As soon as it came out it of the water it flared right up. I also tested how a drenched match would light, so I ran water from the faucet over it and lit it. It sputtered a bit but it did burn. In each package you get two boxes of matches and two sets of strike paper strips. I don’t know if the box they came in would last in my pocket very long so I put the bulk of them in a small tube with a package of strike paper and to keep them from rattling around I put a cotton ball in the bottom and on top. I picked up a pack of these for about $4 at REI in Dallas. I got the bottle I put them in from a package of assorted Nalgene bottles from Uncle Sam’s or Lewis & Clark. The only thing I don’t like about them is that I can’t get them locally. However, I imagine that someone else makes these and puts them in REI packaging. So if anyone has seen these and knows where I can get these locally please let me know. Please email me with any questions and I will answer them. Also if you want to put a comment on the bottom of this page please email it to me and I will add it. |
