DeMolay Updates For July 13th-16th, 2010

DCL2
Greetings!

Last week your editor was caught in a bit of July 4th exhaustion, but fear not, for here is your latest DeMolay Update for Nation's Capital DeMolay.

Please note: we need a solid head count for Hershey Park!

We have a report on some of our 4th of July Activities, an update on a couple of things happening around us, and some events coming up. Enjoy!

Ka-Pow!

Nation's Capital DeMolay

Hot Dogs = Awesome 4th of July!

4th of July is an awesome holiday. Not only does it celebrate the greatest country in the world, our freedoms, our liberties, and the promise of the American Dream, but it is also a chance to celebrate being Americans. The Masons of the District of Columbia the Sponsors of DeMolay, also sponsor free hotd ogs after the palisades day Parade. We want to thank Br. Jules Desroches for coming and helping out with expediting all of the Hot Dogs. Thanks to him we fed over 3,000 people with Hot Dogs!

Knights of Pythagoras Annual Meeting
This past Friday was the Knights DeMolay Logo and KOPof Pythagoras annual meeting over at the Prince Hall Grand Lodge Building. The Knights of Pythagoras is a wonderful Masonic Youth Organization for young men ages 8-18.   Knights of Pythagoras does a number of outstanding programs in the community.  This is the second year in a row that a Representative of DeMolay has been invited to be present at their Grand Encampment Session.

Nation's Capital DeMolay is very excited about all of the outstanding programs that
Most Venerable Grand Master Knight Sylvester L. Harvey, II did during his term and the amazing leadership that the new Most Venerable Grand Master Knight Kyle Anderson will provide. We look forward to doing a number of exciting community service events and other activities with the Knights this year.
Northern Virginia Honors Day a great success!
This past Sunday was the  Northern Virginia*  Honors Day. It was a great day to honors those who have worked so hard for humanity and DeMolay. Special congratulations to "Dads" William Alexander, Philip Brooks, Brett Hurb, James Norris, and Brad Westerman on their Legion of Honors, to Brs. Drew Buckley, William Hamm, Evan Haskel, Stephen Marsters, Austin Roach, Brandon Schimmel, and Joel Springman on being elevated to the Degree of Chevalier and to "Dad" Lenny Demoranville for receiving his Cross of Honor. We are so excited to see so many of our hard working neighbors from the south be so honored as well as thank them for their support of Nation's Capital DeMolay.  "Dad" Wright is still in the process of arranging for our Honors Day which should be sometime in the autumn.

*or as "Dad" Williams says "Least Southern Part of the Commonwealth of Virginia"

Baseball with the Young Ladies of Job's Daughters and Bobble Head Night!
This coming Saturday the Job's Daughters (a masonic youth group for young ladies) is hosting a night at the Potomac Nationals this coming Saturday. It's also free bobble head night for the first 1,000 fans.  It should be a great time. If you're interested please let "Dad" Brusoe know.  We would plan on leaving DC around 4 and heading over to Woodbridge later on in the evening. Also, the first 1,000 fans get bobbleheads!

Now you may be asking yourself "Potomac Nationals, I thought they were the Washington Nationals?" There is this thing called a "Farm Team"  So the not so good players play on the "Farm Team" and the Great Players play in the Major Leagues. (Note: even though the Mets are a mediocre sports team, they are not a farm team for the Yankees. The Yankees Farm team
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees could beat the Mets any day of the week)
Hershey Park July 22nd 2010.
July 22nd Members of Maryland DeMolay and the Maryland Young Ladies Groups are heading to Hershey Park for a day of fun.  Nation's Capital DeMolay is invited to join this group in this trip. If you're interested in attending please contact "Dad" Peter so we can arrange for transportation etc.
Out of State Conventions that we can still register for.

There are still two out-of-state Conventions that we can register to attend. Maryland is the weekend of July 30th-August 1st out on the Eastern Shore of MD. This weekend features great food, sports, fun events, and pizza. Cost is $135 per person. (We can arrange transportation.)

The other is New York's State Convention. This is the weekend of August 6th-8th in beautiful Utica, NY. The  Cost is $160 includes great food, a dance with the three Masonic Girls Groups, degrees, ritual competitions, sports. (If there is enough interest we can carpool up to the Empire State check out some sites along the way.)

If you think you would be interested in either one of these please let "Dad" Brusoe know so we can start making appropriate plans.
Prospective Member Event on Capitol Hill 8/13
As we mentioned a couple of issues ago Naval Lodge #4 has voted to sponsor a new DeMolay Chapter on Capitol Hill.  This new DeMolay Leaders Chapter is going to be great and we're really excited about this. To help jump start the DeMolay Leaders Chapter on Capitol Hill*, Naval Lodge #4 is having a BBQ at their Masonic Center.  We hope to have a good turn out of current DeMolay to meet with the future brothers.  We are also looking for a brother to perform the Ceremony of Light at this event. More details to follow as they are confirmed!

*Note: We don't have a name for the chapter yet, that's for the inaugural class of Brothers to decide.  This is just "Dad" Brusoe's shorthand on the strategic plan.
