Fine example of this classic cruiser/racer from the drawing board of David Thomas and built by Marine Projects in Plymouth, England. She has excellent sailing characteristics for ocean passages. The English face some of the most challenging sailing on the planet: the English Channel, North sea, and the Irish Sea. This yacht was designed and built to please sailors in these demanding conditions. She has a fractional rig, with an easy to handle oversized fully battened mainsail with slab reefing, and a smaller foretriangle that makes tacking easy. And that the boat likes to go upwind fast. The Sigma 36 was built to Lloyd's hull construction specifications by one of Europe's leading boat manufacturers - Marine Projects. She offers the best of both worlds with her exceptional sailing performance and very comfortable interior accommodations.

OWNER COMMENTS:

"Smitten" sailed from England to the U.S. about 15 years ago. My wife and I bought her six years ago and gave her a major refit in 2003 as we prepared her for a 1 year cruise down the east coast , through the Bahamas and back.

If you are familiar with Sigmas , especially the older ones, you know they are well built and heavily rigged. We went through the boat from stem to stern. All new plumbing including a new head, and all new hoses and valves. She has a S.S. hot water heater which is heated by either shore power or the diesel engine. The Volvo MD-11 has all new seals, rings and many new parts. She starts without fail every time and runs strong.

She has a new North Sails full batten main and #2 jib on a Profurl double head foil furler. She also has a mylar light #1 Genoa, a #3 and a tri- radial spinnaker with pole and gear and an adjustable backstay. As long as we're talking about the rig, I'll mention that I took down the mast during the refit. I had it, and all the rigging inspected and replaced anything which looked questionable.

I replaced the anchor/running lights and deck light and pulled all new marine grade wiring through the mast (not to mention replacing ALL wiring through-out the boat and upgrading the fuse panel to a new breaker panel. I also installed new Raymarine speed, depth, windsystem and autopilot. She has a "wind bugger" wind generator.

I was working at a marina while I was doing the refit. So I either supervised all the work or did it myself. Knowing I was about to set out on an extended cruise, I did not cut corners. She also has a new main sail cover. And a sun awning which runs from cockpit to mast when at anchor.

My wife and I cruised her for a year, so she is very well equipped and has proven to be a very safe and comfortable boat. We have moved to the west coast and I will be very sad to let her go. "Smitten" came with a custom, very well insulated ice box, into which I installed an adler-barbour refrig-system that should be serviced.

Owner wants this yacht SOLD now. Offers welcome.
