What's New!

Do you believe it? I have managed to write 2 new patterns since Christmas!

One is Tablet Tote. My quilting friends and I just received new ipad2s and realized that we needed a case with handles. So here it is.

Ollie is the second pattern. We do a lot of quilts for babies and young children but very few for teenage boys. Ollie features a skateboarder.

Have you heard about SeW Squared?

My friend Sue and I have formed a teaching partnership (hence the S for Sue et W for Wanda!). We are certified Square in a Square teachers and Marti Michell "Grand Rulers" . We are available to teach these and other quilting techniques. Please go to the SeW Squared pages at  www.thimblesandthings.com to see more information.

This is how it all began

I guess my ‘quilting life’ began in 1985, when my friend Judy asked me to help her hand quilt a project her mother had begun many years previously.  The Grandmother's Garden came to life. Many of the fabrics were recycled dresses, shirts and aprons which prompted Judy to tell me stories about her parents and her life on a Michigan farm.

I was hooked! Taking no lessons, nor having a mentor, I just jumped in and started a quilt of my own. Of course, at this point I didn’t know about rotary cutters nor strip piecing. It took me two years!

Now, I have many quilting friends and quilting ‘toys’ which allow me to explore new techniques, and create quilts and hangings at a faster pace. I happily share my love of quilting by speaking, teaching and writing patterns.

As for Judy’s Grandmother’s Garden quilt? Her daughter has it now, and maybe someday Judy’s great-grandchildren will hear the stories related to the fabrics in that quilt.
