Relational Intervals: or How the Network Creates Spacetimes of Experience

This workshop explores the question of the relational interval as the between where thought takes place that exceeds the platforms of its expression. In preparation for this workshop, I propose we read the following (which I will do my best to scan)
From William James, Essays in Radical Empiricism "The Thing and its Relations" pp 92-123
From Gilles Deleuze, The Time-Image "Thought and  Cinema" pp. 147-156

If you want to know where I stand on the idea of the relational interval, you can also look at Incipient Action: The Dance of the Not-Yet (attached) from my forthcoming Relationscapes: Movement, Art, Philosophy.

I propose we take the workshop toward the question of the in-between in the event itself and work together to create activities that animate these intervals (the spacetimes of experience between scheduled events, lunch breaks, after-event times etc) to explore how these in-between spacetimes of experience activate the thinking of the event. Together, we can ask how event-thought creates new kinds of networks - new in their ontogenetic potential, new in their status as relational intervals. Here James's concept of  radical empiricism will serve to alert us to how a speculative pragmatism can open the way to new propositions for thought and new vistas for experience.

UPDATE:
I have put the files for the readings on the site. The key concepts are thought and relation. It would be great if everyone had read the pieces or at least brought photocopies to the first workshop so we can explore the concepts in detail.

Here is the schedule I suggest -

WORKING GROUP 1:
conceptual speed-dating (you'll just have to come if you want to know more!). close reading of key concepts from the texts - setting up a creative database of concepts that propose "enabling constraints" for the taking-form of microevents (events at the scale of the relational interval) during Walled Garden.

WORKING GROUP 2:
planning session for the creation of microevents that animate the in-between times of Walled Garden - here I am thinking of ways of creating interventions into the intervals of Walled Garden itself. The idea would be that for session 3 (and starting right after session 2), we would begin staging creative interpellations into Walled Garden that  interweave into its fabric. Goal: to make felt/make apparent how the relational intervals are the "stuff" of the event.

WORKING GROUP 3:
dissemination of group into active cells that create new kinds of linkages between different event-times such as breaks, before-after conference, but also with/in the spacetimes of other Walled Garden workshops - can we stage contamination/contagion between workshops, for instance? Can we find ways beyond description to activate the comings-together that happen between people when they grab a coffee or have dinner? Can we make the between-times of the conference feed back into Walled Garden?

WORKING GROUP 4:
remix - performing the in-between of thought/event. What kinds of  concepts emerge by making the interval felt? What kinds of contribution can we make to the "thought" of Walled Garden by activating in-between transitional event-spaces?
