Tom Klinkowstein


Tom Klinkowstein is President and Creative Director of Media A, LLC, an internationally recognized design and consulting group with clients such as CondéNast, IBM, NASA, Novartis, Reuters, the Ford Foundation, Lincoln Center for the Arts in New York, Nissan, Japan Airlines and the Bremen (Germany) Innovation Agency. He has spoken to over 100 business, political and academic groups, including the United Nations Conference on the Information Society, the Magazine Publisher's Association, the Smithsonian Institute’s Cooper Hewett Museum of Art and Design, the McLuhan Program in Culture and Technology at the University of Toronto, the Industrial Design Centre at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai and the Doors of Perception conference in Amsterdam.

Klinkowstein previously taught in the graphic design department at the West Brabant Art and Design College in the Netherlands and since 2000, a Professor of New Media at Hofstra University on Long Island. He is also an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Communications Design department of Pratt Institute in New York.

His work has been shown in art centers, museums and galleries throughout the world, including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Venice Biennale in Venice, Italy. Mr. Klinkowstein’s work also can be found in the archive of the Foundation for the Conservation of Contemporary Art in The Netherlands; his work for NASA recently won two Communicator awards and his 10-meter long digital artwork, A Networked Designer’s Critical Path: 1990-2090, was shown at the Fifth Avenue (New York) Gallery of the American Institute of Graphic Design.

Tom Klinkowstein’s most recent project (with Irene Pereyra and others) is entitled, A Day In The Life Of A Networked Designer’s Smart Things Or A Day In A Designer’s Networked Smart Things, 2030, about the future of design, was created for the Singapore International Design Festival in December, 2007. A city-block sized version of the project was shown during the summer of 2008 at DesignCenter Winkelhaak in Antwerp, Belgium.
