Late in 2006, the TTC decided to remove the famous "Walk Left Stand Right" signs that adorned their subway escalators and promoted efficient pedestrian traffic in subway stations.

This was apparently done out of public safety concerns, as the TTC thinks that promoting walking up escalators will lead to accidents.
