Humanitarian Crisis in Iraq – Red Cross Response
The deteriorating humanitarian situation in Iraq continues to affect all Iraqis, with civilians bearing the brunt of the relentless violence and insecurity that is disrupting lives and livelihoods in many parts of the country. The International Committee of the Red Cross Red Crescent (ICRC) continues to call upon all parties involved in the conflict to spare civilian life and property. The ICRC maintains an operational presence in the central, southern and northern parts of Iraq, and remains committed to meeting the immense humanitarian needs across the country.
ICRC operations in Iraq include: -Visits to persons detained or interned by the multinational forces in Iraq and the Kurdish Regional Government; -Responding to humanitarian emergencies, distributing food and non-food items to victims of the conflict; -Distributing water and providing support for sanitation and health facilities; -Providing medical aid in case of mass casualty incidents.
The ICRC maintains close cooperation with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, especially in the fields of tracing and emergency relief response.
Please help us support the response of the Red Cross to the humanitarian crisis in Iraq. Whether it is by participating in the Walk for Iraq in Canada or donating to the cause, you are making a difference. All proceeds from the Walk for Iraq in Canada will be donated to the Canadian Red Cross in support of the Iraq: Response to Humanitarian Crisis Emergency Appeal.
