Aim
ACT Walkers promotes walking for sport, health and fitness in the Canberra region. Fitness and race walkers of all abilities are welcome.
 
Actitivities
The club conducts a road walking series over winter using recreational paths around Canberra and holds track races in summer at the AIS.  On the Queen's Birthday weekend in June each year, the club conducts the Lake Burley Griffin Race Walking Carnival, Australia's largest race walking event.

  • 2011 Australian Road Walking Championships To be held at Weston Park, Canberra, 21st August 11The 2011 Australian Roadwalking Championships are a joint venture involving Athletics Australia, the State Associations and Racewalking Australia.   • Elite Racewalkers to descend on Canberra! Over 300 racewalkers from all over Australia are expected to descend on Canberra this Queens Birthday weekend for the running of the 45th Lake Burley Griffin Walking Carnival.  The Carnival will be held on Sunday 12th June at Weston Park, Yarralumla.   Events are being held from the 20 mile distance to various smaller distances for the Age group divisions.   The main event is the Mens 20 mile which consists of two laps of the Western Basin of Lake Burley Griffin.  A top field  has been assembled which includes, Nathan Deakes (Vic), Jared Tallent (Vic), Luke Adams(Regal), Chris Erickson (Vic) and Adam Rutter(NSW).All five walkers are currently being coached at the AIS.  Nathan Deakes has had a long ...

  • Committee News - Financial Assistance Recently the committee has approved the payment of financial assistance to a number of club members competing at championships or similar events at national and international level.Race fees can be completely reimbursed, and a small contribution made to travel costs.  In addition, the committee can consider if the specific circumstances warrant additional financial assistance.   The formal requirements are contained in Rule 4 of the club rules. If you are chosen to represent the club or the ACT as a competitor or official at a national or international championship, let me or one of your committee members know, and we will help you make a request for assistance.Doug FitzgeraldSecretaryACT Walkers
