Explorer Scouts are aged between fourteen and eighteen years of age.
They are the fourth member of the Scouting family but unlike Beavers, Cubs and Scouts they are District based. All Wakefield Explorer Units however do have close links to a local Scout Group.
Explorer Scouts are expected to be more involved in the programme planning than the junior sections and the Adult Leaders are there to act as facilitators and advisors.
For further information contact the District Explorer Scout Commissioner Chris Stead
The current Explorer Units are:
Ace of Spades (Wrenthorpe)
Newmillerdam (South Wakefield)
Crofton (South Wakefield)
Black Sheep (YL Unit)
As well as Unit based activities there are usually District activities once per month to which all Wakefield Explorers are invited.
Young Leaders
These are Young People who assist in other younger sections of the Scout Movement. All Young Leaders must be a member of an Explorer Unit (which may be the Black Sheep Young Leader Unit) and they must complete module A of the YL Training within 3 months of starting to assist.
