WAI-SD's GIRL SCOUT AVIATION CAMP
going strong since 2008!
WAI San Diego's 4th Annual Girl Scout Aviation Day April 2011
Montgomery Field, San Diego CA.
April 9th,2011 was a cold and blustery Spring day here in San Diego, California. This unusual weather did not detour 18 Girl Scouts, their leaders and friends and family from joining the San Diego Chapter of WAI at our 4th Annual Girl Scout Aviation "Camp". The event was held in the privately owned Goodrich Aviation hangar located on Montogmery Field. A score of Girl Scouts, ranging from 8 to 12 years of age, were bright eyed and eager with anticipation to earn their aviation badges. The four aviation stations included:
- How planes fly
- An airplane cockpit tour
- A video shuttle launch
-
Careers in aviation
This gave the Girl Scouts exposure to the wide world of aviation. The girls were given goodie bags full of aviation *swag* along with a customized log book. There was a page for each station topic that was stamped - with an airplane of course! – to confirm their completion of the station. Lunch Break included a visit from guest speaker, Naval Helicopter Pilot and WAI-SD member " Lt. Harriet". At the end of the day the girls received a Certificate of Completion and earned their Aviation Badges.
