Known to her friends as 'Daff' (pictured right), Daphne Dangerfield was born on October 6th 1924, in Guelph, Canada. Her father, Bernard who was an architect, found it very hard to get work in England so decided to move to Canada, together with his wife Hylda, and their two children, Hector and Valerie, where later on Daphne was also born.

 

About nine years later things hadn't improved so they returned England and settled in Ruislip. 

 

The fact that she was officially a Canadian citizen meant that she could wear her Canadian 'Wings' on her WAAF uniform.
