Jobs 4 Students / Nasher Museum Gallery Guides – Paid position, $20 - $24 per tour

Dear Colleagues,

The Nasher Museum is beginning a paid tour guide program this summer, and
we'd love to recruit some of your students, friends and acquaintances.

Applicants don't need to be Duke students, or current college students.
Anyone who meets the qualifications is invited to apply.

Gallery Guides – Paid position, $20 - $24 per tour
Job Description:
     Lead tours of the Nasher Museum of Art.  The main audiences are K-12
     school groups, adult groups and public tours.
     Act as a facilitator with tour groups rather than a lecturer.  A
     facilitator is somebody who enables a process to happen, especially
     somebody who encourages people to find their own solutions to
     problems or tasks.
     Use Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS), open ended-questions and the
     inquiry method for all tours. (Training provided in these methods.)
     Manage and keep control of a group of 15 students or adults with
     attention to safety of visitors and artworks and implementation of
     museum rules
     Follow museum procedures and protocols
     Research artworks and artists outside of training at a level
     appropriate to the age group
     Personality traits: Cooperative, outgoing, engaging, enthusiastic,
     and flexible
Qualifications
     Prior experience with leading a group or teaching in a formal or
     informal setting
     Some background in visual art and/or education
     Strong interest in contemporary art
     Ability to learn quickly and synthesize information about artworks
     for various audiences
     Education – currently enrolled in college or college graduate.(See

17, 2009.

Duke Online Discourse Design Contest: $1000 Prize

The Duke University Online Discourse project is sponsoring a web design
contest. We are offering a $1000 prize to the winning entry.

Contestants are asked to create a compelling visual presence for the
group's website along with a user-friendly interface. Entries will not
merely be a mock-up but rather a fully implemented and fully operational
Ning (http://ning.com) skin (also referred to as a "theme").

Entrants must register by 13 April 2009 and submissions must be
delivered by 11 May 2009. The winner's entry will be launched along with
the public launch of the Duke Online Discourse website Monday 01 June 2009.
