From a review at WebFictionGuide.com

...a coming-of-age story about a young Dwarf, Heinrich, and his family who are among the many colonists going to settle a new kingdom.  Along the way, Heinrich becomes somewhat famous for his habit of making friends among the different races and learning their languages and cultures.
