Hello Everyone:

 

My name is Yongan Wu and I am currently teaching Chinese at Univ. of North Florida. I developed this flashcard program with my team to help students memorize Chinese characters. Teachers also can use it to display characters and sentences in class. I hope you will like it.

  • What is Chinese Vocab? Chinese Vocab is a program helps learners to memorialize Chinese characters and reinforce the grammar knowledge.

 

  • How does it work? You simply need to download software into your computer, either Mac or PC. Then please unzip it and start to practice.  

 

  • Why it doesn't work on my PC? You may need to download the newest version of Java to run this program properly. Also, if your operation system is too ancient, you may very well encounter some problems.  

 

  • Why it doesn't work on my Mac? First you should click "ChineseVocab.jar". You may need to download the newest version of Java to run this program properly. 
 
  • What functions does it have? Chinese Vocab provides a lot of exciting functions, from the basic flashcard to rearrange words into sentence, please watch the following tutorials for details:

  • How much does it cost? Chinese Vocab is free now.
 
  • Where are those sound files stored in the program? Please go to the folder "Sound". The sound files were recorded by Dr. Zhang Yanhui from Chinese University of Hong Kong, but they are yours now. You can copy them to your IPod and/or burn them to a CD.  
 
  • I am using a textbook different from Integrated Chinese (2nd or 3rd Edition), what should I do? Well. We can accommodate that. Please provide us a vocabulary list and sentences list following the format of the example. Also, please keep in mind this is a freeware so it may take a while for us to make the changes, since all of us are busy.  

 

  • Can I edit the content of this software to suit my class teaching?  Yes. you need to download a software to edit your data file. To avoid unwanted problems, you have to strictly follow each step in the manual. Click here for more instruction (Coming up soon)
 
  • I found errors in your program? Thank you. This program is still in the testing stage. Please let us know by going to the error-report page.
 
  •  How can I teach my students to use this program? You can simple refer them to this webpage (http://chinese.vocab.program.googlepages.com/faq.html). Also, tell them this program can be operated with just one hand. So the other hand is to write characters and take notes.  


    • How can I use this software in my class?
      Please Google "Wireless Presenter" and buy something like this. Run the program and then you know how to start from there. 


    • What are the short keys? Please look under the program's help menu. In case you are too busy to do so, here they are

    • Who made this? Chinesevocab is made by a team. The project is designed and supervised by Yongan Wu from Univ. of North Florida. The sound files were recorded by Zhang Yanhui from Chinese University of Hong Kong, the program was written by Peter Reid from University of Oklahoma, and English translation was proofread by Sage Driskell from University of Oklahoma.
