This page is to keep track of all the games i have developed. My homepage does a good job of putting them out there, but there is no single location where they are all put So i thought it would be nice to do this rather than integrate it into my personal website.

Invasion

posted Sep 21, 2011 7:07 PM by vamsi krishna Veligatla

This months' theme was Story. Telling a story is really hard in games, i haven't done it before and most games use audio or video to get the point through. I choose the easy way out.. "Text", I know it isn't the best but i think ive' kept the text short and let the game kind of depict what i wanted to say. As always the source code of the game is not obfuscated in any way so you can directly download the source code from the website and check it out.
Gameplay:
  • Typical shoot em up game
  • Use arrow keys to move, WASD to set direction of shooting.
  • Score used to judge the Story outcome.

Another 2D game with new gameplay mechanic. The theme for this month was offspring and i couldn't really think of anything in the lines of children, etc. So i took the other interpretation.. growth. You essentially have to grow the line while balancing the ball and collecting stars on the way. You can read further about the dev process on my blog.As always the source code of the game is not obfuscated in any way so you can directly download the source code from the website and check it out.
Gameplay:
  • Click with the mouse to create new platform for the ball to jump on.
  • Keep growing the line upwards, Dont' let the ball touch your previous lines.
  • Pick up the stars for extra points.

A simple 2D arcade game written in html5 in just one day (3rd July 2011). I guess ill' keep updating this for some time before moving on. The idea was to create a simple game which would be fun to play and addictive. Found the background music on flashkit.com.
You can read further about the dev process on my blog. The source code of the game is not obfuscated in any way so you can directly download the source code from the website and check it out.
Gameplay:
  • Use mouse or touch screen (on mobile devices) to move the ship around
  • Keep enemies in shield range to disintegrate them and kill them.
  • Pick up power ups. Note that they disintegrate when in the shield region so make sure you pick them quickly.
  • If enemies manage to reach the ship before they die, the ship disintegrates for the duration the enemy is alive.

Charged

A 2D puzzle game developed using pygame(sdl port to python) and python for pyweek12.The game is inspired by the concept of tangential learning. I tried to incorporate the concepts of electric circuits into a simple puzzle game where the user controls a ball which collects voltage as it hits the wires before finally touching the light bulbs' circuit to light it up (and finish the level). The other interesting experiment i did for this game was to use the svg editor Inkscape as the level editor. You can read about the development story on my blog.
GamePlay:
  • Press Left mouse button to place the ball somewhere in the level
  • Drag the mouse around to set the direction of motion
  • Release the mouse to start the motion

MuCap

posted Mar 30, 2011 12:04 AM by vamsi krishna Veligatla   [ updated Feb 24, 2012 4:55 PM ]

This is a simple arcade like game. The central music box generates notes based on the music and you have to capture them. The more you capture the more points you get, as you play you create a pattern on the background which hopefully motivates players to catch all the notes. That brings us to the name of the game "MuCap" meaning Music Capture and the tag line capture the music.  This game is also to experiment and see if i can make games which people would be willing to pay for.

GamePlay:
  • The user can move the mouse around and use left click to capture the music notes
  • You can capture multiple notes at the same time if they are close enough.
  • Instead of punishing the player or spoiling the music like most rhythm games do, this game encourages the creation of beautiful scene which hopefully motivates players to capture all the notes.

Squared (HTML5)

posted Jan 11, 2011 7:47 AM by vamsi krishna Veligatla   [ updated Jan 11, 2011 8:01 AM ]

This is the second game i've developed using Html5 for the Mozilla GameOn contest. The game isn't as polished as i would have liked it to be but it sure is complete. Lot of the effort went into just coming up with the game rules. The gameplay was there but it was hard to make it into a good game. I hope my experiment is atleast fun to play for a while :)

GamePlay:
You are in control of a block in the middle of a bigger block. You need to place smaller block at the position where
you want the colored block to be set so you can create a copy of the pattern shown in the "Copy Mode" and in the "Free Mode" you are supposed to place the colored blocks in such a way that you create at least 4 blocks connected with same color.

Stardust (HTML5)

posted Sep 17, 2010 8:34 PM by vamsi krishna Veligatla   [ updated Apr 10, 2011 1:48 AM ]

With all the excitement surrounding html5 canvas element and webgl, i decided to try out and see what kinda performance i would be able to get out of just the canvas element for implementing a game.So i ported my pyweek11 entry to the browser using javascript + html5 canvas.
GamePlay:
Though the game is 2D i think the game play is where it shines. Easy to pickup but hard to master. The visual feedback using particle effects just looks amazing.
  • You move the mouse to set the direction for the ball to move.
  • Left click to make the ball move.
  • Make sure you don't touch the red "enemies"
  • Unlock Achievements
  • Single Powerup to blast all enemies.

This is a 2D game developed using OpenGL, pyglet and python for the PyWeek11. The interesting thing is that I actually developed the core game in two days, you can read all about it on my blog. I did add power ups and little polishes here and there after the submission though.
