Polio

The epidemic among the Inuits in 1948 at Chesterfield Inlet affected 2 of 52 children but 25% of the adults. I have proposed a genetic model based on this Hardy-Weinburg distribution and reviewed past research (see MedHypoth I).
I have used this model to look at more than 50 epidemics with high rates of polio (see MedHypoth II).

There is an excellent history of polio by John R Paul.   However, there are a number of topics which he missed.   Perhaps the most important was the  unique epidemic which started in New York City in May 1916.   He focussed on the quarantine and the life of Emerson.   The great enigma is where did the unique virus come from ?   I suggest that the virus escaped from the laboratory at the Rockeller  (see NY 1916 pdf).
