Welcome to Swiss Cheese Business English Frequently Asked Questions 1. What is Swiss Cheese Business English? Answer: Swiss Cheese has holes in it. We find your gaps and we help you do the work to fill the holes in grammar and vocabulary. 2. What is the Visual and Active method? Answer: Edu-tainment (educational entertainment or entertaining education) is the secret. We sacrifice everything to make the classes edu-taining. There is very little discipline or structure in these classes. If you don't participate, you can watch the class on youtube.com. I don't keep attendance because your performance of understanding is the most important test. 3. What is a performance of understanding? Answer: When you stand up and tell someone about a project that you want them to participate in, you are giving a performance of your understanding of the project... it is more than just reciting facts. You have a purpose behind your communication. You want to persuade soemone to see the world as you see it. Our tests (mostly over the telephone or via Skype) are one-on-one evaluations. 4. What will I receive? Answer: Satisfaction with yourself. A "certificate of participation" that will be emailed to you confirming that you met the minimum standards of the course. If you don't attend every lecture or group meeting, that's okay. You must have at least 10 conversations with the instructor over the 8 week course. Lifelong membership in the Swiss Cheese Business English continuing education group on Facebook. You have to be CONFIRMED to join the group. You can request entry, but you must be accepted into the group in order to benefit from it. 5. How much time will I need to give to the course? Minimum: 30 minutes in a group class Time taken to travel to the group class Watching time each week: 10-15 minutes (youtube.com or ted.org lecture) One-on-one with the teacher: two or three calls, each about 10-20 minutes long. Five emails (writing 5 sentences). You can do more. thisis the minimum to get good results. We hope you will copy our methods and spread the word about edu-tainment, a concept described by Dennis Yuzenas in a youtube series of videos at youtube.com/visualandactive Sure, we own the copyright to this site. We love our ideas and we hope you will copy and implement everything here. But there are bigger issues here. We like the idea of GNU and Copyleft (where the copyright is shared with the planet as long as all of the information in italics in this column is preserved). We subscribe to the efforts underway at wikipedia.org and we agree with the "commons" approach. How can we help you help us share this information? You can contact us at SwissCheeseBusinessEnglish@gmail.com This course is being developed first and a method of compensating the teachers and training new teachers will emerge.
