Hello                                   Go to the READINGS

We are a group of six teachers who are visual and active "edu-tainers."  Some of our students say, "Your class is a circus..." and that is intended as a compliment.

Many of us have read Dan Pink, Thomas Friedman, Bill Gates and other critics of "Big Box" schooling.  If you believe that schooling gets in the way of education, please consider joining us.   We can send you our two workshop sheets.  One is for parents ("Fix Your School") and the second is for training teachers ("That's Edu-Tainment").     We believe that teachers are made, not born.  It is possible to become an edu-tainer and we think many of our "boring" colleagues could join us if they could have an example to copy.

Instead of saying, "Do this" or "Copy me," we believe in the power of words and Great Ideas to inspire change in a teacher.  We invite you to read the "Readings" on our VisualandActive.com website.   Click on "Our Mentors" and "Readings" to get started.   If you have other readings that inspire you to individualize your teaching, making special lessons for each student, then you are a visual and active teacher.   Why not join us?  Please send readings and quotes that push you to be that special teacher and FACILITATOR:  The Guide on the Side, not the Sage on the Stage.

Our plan is to translate these materials into other languages.  When any of us travels (Yes, You can become a Volunteer, too), we can volunteer to give a workshop in a school in another city and share the ideas of Littky, Yuzenas, Postman and others.    Spreading ideas will possibly awake the fire of the edu-tainer in other teachers who are puzzled -- "Why do my careful lessons fail to inspire students?  Why are many of my students bored?  I'm doing everything that my mentors told me to do..."

We welcome your comments.

If you would like a "visual and active" "That's Edu-Tainment" workshop in your city, perhaps we can lead one through SKYPE or by telephone.   Let's experiment.   Some of our team will be traveling to San Diego, LA, Phoenix, Charlotte (NC) and possibly Toronto in the next three months.   We are happy to meet with anyone in those cities or in nearby areas.   Let's strategize the best ideas and figure out ways to inspire teachers, parents and administrators to create ways to build more mentors and internships for our students.

In the words of Thomas Hoerr (a remarkable principal in St. Louis):

We should develop students who know how to:
identify problems,
use their intelligences to solve problems and create products,
demonstrate their understanding in a variety of ways, and
work with others.

Educators should:
personalize education and work to individualize instruction;
enable students to develop and use their areas of strength;
view students' parents as partners and educate them, too;
offer an environment that supports faculty growth; and
demonstrate that students are prepared for the future.
