Broward College Course

Overview
This course is offered through the Continuing Education department at Broward College.

The purpose of this course is to share technologies and techniques that have worked in the ESOL classroom.  Many teachers outside the ESOL environment need to know these ESOL techniques so that this course is really for EVERYONE who teaches a student who is not a native English speaker.   ESOL techniques are good teaching techniques in general.

You will learn more if you demonstrate something that you learned and if you work with other people in the class.  Feel free to bring your own camera to class and record anything.

Some examples of "technology on the web"

Products:  201 Ebooks on one CD, Speeches from the Internet, Put Something Useful on that iPod, the "Everything" DVD for ESOL students, and more.

Assumptions
1.  We know that young students learn more from their peers than from adults.
2.  Howard Garnder has pointed out that there are at least 8 ways of learning, so there must be at least 8 ways of teaching and testing (evaluating the learning).
3.  Many students learn faster from computers adn websites (especially with self-checking quizzes)

How can we use technology to make the classroom more desirable?

How can we use technology to make the classroom more "edu-taining"?

The techniques are aimed at ESOL teachers, but almost any teacher can use these methods.
