What is Visual and Active Teaching (VATT)?

Our Methods           TIPS

Our Mentors

We are educational consultants.  We offer workshops, seminars, analysis and other training.
Contact us and we'll work with you to improve your school.
Let's share what we know.
Let's learn together.

Our "Digital Portfolio" and "That's Edu-tainment" workshops need to be translated into other languages.  We are looking for translators and TRAINERS...  We can teach you and then you can become a VISUAL and ACTIVE teacher trainer (VATT -- certification)

We are "edu-tainers"
The "back to basics" movement and the focus on standardized tests ("drill-and-kill") have brutalized schools.  The students aren't having fun, the teachers aren't having fun.  There is another way. -- Dennis Yuzenas

(Their feedback has helped to guide this course)

Presentations
"Reset the Mindset" -- a workshop that helps participants see how their training limits what they see.  If you think that the sun travels around the Earth, you ignore data that suggests another arrangement.

Teachers are lucky.  We have an opportunity every time we begin a class to start again.
We can create a new world, an alternative to the "real world" in our classroom.  It is a place of hope, support, dreams and potentials.  We can put inspiring quotations on the walls, on stickers that we put in the students' books, on desks, under chairs, over the door.

I awake at dawn with a winged heart and I give thanks for another day of living.  -- Kahlil Gibran, Lebanese philosopher

Send us photos of you at work in your visual and active classroom.  When you catch your students in "flow" and oblivious to time, take a photo and share it with us.  What conditions created the focus?

(based on Visual and Active principles)

Dennis Yuzenas talks about the biggest problem in many schools (Why do students drop out?)

What causes teens to drop out of school?

One of the most powerful essays/compositions or arguments that you will ever read begins with these words:

Chapter 1. The Real Goals of Education

“Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.”

John Dewey

When I watch kids walk into the building on their first day of school, I think about what I want them to be like when they walk out on their last day. I also think about what I want them to be like on the day I bump into them in the supermarket 10 or 20 years later. Over the course of three decades watching kids walk into my schools, I have decided that I want them to

  • be lifelong learners
  • be passionate
  • be ready to take risks
  • be able to problem-solve and think critically
  • be able to look at things differently
  • be able to work independently and with others
  • be creative
  • care and want to give back to their community
  • persevere
  • have integrity and self-respect
  • have moral courage
  • be able to use the world around them well
  • speak well, write well, read well, and work well with numbers
  • truly enjoy their life and their work.
To me, these are the real goals of education.

Testimonials  (What do some students say?)

=============================================

Educators should:
personalize education and work to individualize instruction;
enable students to develop and use their areas of strength;
view students' parents as partners and educate them, too;
offer an environment that supports faculty growth; and
demonstrate that students are prepared for the future.

A Visual and Active Project

WE CAN USE SKYPE IN OUR CLASSROOMS...  But first...
We can ask our students to create a short video,
THEN upload the video,
THEN ask the other students (in another country) to watch the videos.
... THEN we can talk again on SKYPE.
