Welcome to our community --

Nevada, Missouri is located in the southwest part of Missouri, one hundred miles south of Kansas City and sixty miles north of Joplin, Missouri on Highway 71.  Nevada is a community of 8900 people as is the county seat of Vernon County, home of approximately 16,000.  We're proud of our community and all that it has to offer; we hope you enjoy your visit.


Why Visit Nevada?

Nevada and Vernon County offer a look at the past and a glimpse into the future.  Nevada was an important part of the border wars during the time of the Civil War and a tour of the Bushwhacker Museum will take a visitor into that tumultuous past.  Cottey College, Crowder College, and baseball leagues are just a few of the activities that provide a look at the future movers and shakers.  Nevada provides a welcoming home town feel for our residents and those passing through.  Our businesses, services, schools, community groups, churches, and residents extend a hand of greeting.
