~Josh~
My study of mind, body and spirit began as a musician, studying classical operatic technique. Upon completion of a Master of Music degree from the University of Indiana in 2001, I moved to Chicago to marry the love of my life, Jean and join the chorus of both the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Chicago Symphony.
Upon arriving in Chicago, I began to devote myself to a disciplined study of Ashtanga yoga with Jodi Blumstein, Quinn Kearney and Tom Quinn. At first, yoga was simply a welcome relief from the relentless drive for perfection instilled during my study of the arts... but soon it became clear that the beauty and awakening of spirit I felt in my daily yoga practice was something I wanted to share.
Since then I've been blessed to study in-depth with senior teachers such as Tim Miller, Richard Freeman, Gabriel Halpurn and Aadil Palkhivala. In addition to my formal studies, I am blessed to be surrounded by wonderful teachers in my daily life... especially my wife Jean, my brother Ben (my entire family for that matter) and all of my yoga friends and students. I have been teaching yoga full time since 2003. I teach a contemporary vinyasa-flow style, blending elements of Ashtanga, Iyengar and Anusara Yoga, with an emphasis on precise breathing technique and meditative alignment.
In 2007 we moved to California in the hopes of raising a family around an abundance of sunshine and surf. We happily welcomed our son Noah to the world on November 4, 2011 and could not be happier to be realizing our dream each and every day.
I sing seasonally with the San Diego Opera Chorus and teach yoga full time around the North County. Namaste

My search for truth began long before being exposed to yoga,
but yoga felt like coming home. I
have studied various traditions of yoga, meditation, mysticism, music,
philosophy, conflict resolution and sustainable farming. I continue to study
with Richard Freeman, Rod Stryker, William Prottengeier, and Aadil Palkhivala,
and have also studied with the maestro Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. Through these
relationships, I have learned that the art of teaching is to inspire a love of
the practice, for great teachers are always students.
My teaching is a reflection of my practice – integrating the
breath & energetic awareness of Ashtanga Vinyasa & pranayama, the
bodily alignment of Iyengar yoga, and the mindfulness and subtle awareness of
various meditative and philosophical traditions - to realize integral
well-being. Self-inquiry through
yoga, meditation and music as living arts, has deepened the experience of what
it is to be human and divine. I seek to embody these realities through the
simple truths of love, compassion, and non-attachment.
To share the wisdom of yoga as a teacher, is both a blessing and great responsibility, as there is no greater service than the work of love. Namaste.
