Lego Robotics Challenge

Process

Building and Blogging:

Each week your team blog must include:

Roles: (Students rotate roles weekly.)

  • Engineer – name of person in charge of the designing and building

While the Engineer is in charge of the week’s building, they must collaborate with their team. The Engineer may not drastically change the design of the project without first consulting with the other team members.

  • Parts and Service – name of person in charge of finding parts, assists in building
  • Recorder – name of person in charge of recording the day’s progress, uploading last week’s picture and taking this week’s picture

The Recorder is expected to record first, build second…even if that means they never get to touch the robot that particular week. At the beginning of class, the Recorder states the goal for the week (copied and pasted from the previous week’s blog) and uploads the previous week’s picture. At the final 10 minute warning, the Recorder takes photographs and discusses the week’s accomplishments and next week’s goal with the team. At the final 5 minute warning, the Recorder returns to the computer to complete the week’s blog while the remaining team members clean up.

Reflecting:

Reflection is a large part of this project, both weekly and at the culmination of the project. Once the showcase is complete, teams are asked the following questions:

  • What did you learn from this experience? Explain at least 2-3 things that you learned about robotics and physics during this project.

  •  What did you enjoy most about this project? What was your least favorite part of the project?

  • What would you change about the project?

  •  What advice would you give to next year’s sixth graders?
