Vikram Shenoy Handiru

I am currently a Research Scientist at the Center for Mobility and Rehabilitation Engineering Research at Kessler Foundation, New Jersey, USA (Jan 2022-present) and also currently affiliated with the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School as a Research Assistant Professor. Before this, I was an Associate Research Scientist at Kessler Foundation (July'19-Dec'21). Before beginning my postdoc journey, I was a Ph.D. researcher at Interdisciplinary Graduate School, Nanyang Technological University, (Singapore) working on EEG-based Brain-Computer Interfaces. I was supervised by Dr. Vinod A. Prasad and Dr. Guan Cuntai (Prof, School of Computer Science and Engineering, NTU). I was also affiliated with the Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) Lab at Institute for Infocomm Research, Singapore.

My overarching research goals are (1) to develop signal processing and machine learning algorithms to understand the brain dynamics (2) to advance the understanding of the neurophysiology of neuromuscular disorders (e.g. Traumatic Brain Injury, stroke) for a better prognosis, and (3) to develop personalized therapeutic approaches for neurorehabilitation. To this end, I make use of various modalities such as EEG, EMG, and fMRI to study the functional and effective connectivity in the brain.

Before joining the Ph.D. program, I did my Bachelor of Technology in Electronics & Communication Engineering from the National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (India) during 2009-2013. It's a wonderful place with its own beach!
