Raiders win Gold in Langford

posted May 30, 2010 5:26 PM by Eric Solomon

The Raiders won gold in the May 28-30th Midget B tourney in Langford.  They went 3 and 1 in the round robin, losing to the Surrey Storm.  This placed us as seed #2 and Surrey as number 1 in the playoffs. In the gold medal game the Raiders overcame a 3-1 deficit and tied the game forcing international tiebreak rules to be in effect.  Surrey score one run in the top of the inning.  The Raiders answered back with 3 runs for a final score of 7-5!

Hi Players and Parents,
Well, our concession schedule this year is so simple. The Raiders are responsible for 3 games including opening and closing.

The dates that we have are:
Thursday April 22nd: be there @ 6pm for 6:30 start
Sunday April 25th: be there at 10:30 for 11am game.
Sunday April 25th: 1pm game and closing.

If players are doing the shift, then you are not available for the 25th @ 11, since you will be playing against Strawberry Vale.
This one we will need parents to cover.

We need 4 people for each shift. If you do not want to work a shift, then you will not get your $50 back. If that is the case, please let me know asap since I will have to find a replacement for you.  First come, first serve.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Season Ramp up tasks

posted Mar 3, 2010 12:35 AM by Eric Solomon   [ updated Mar 3, 2010 12:37 AM ]

Raiders,

Welcome to the new players and a sad farewell to Shayna and Ash.   A few things as we start to ramp up the season.   We plan to have a mandatory parent/player meeting next week (March 10th or 11th) at 7pm at the clubhouse…I’ll send a note when firmed up.  In the mean time:

Communication

We will get word out to you as follows:

·         Email

·         Web site: http://sites.google.com/site/viewroyalraiders/  now has a news feed and a calendar on front page.

·         Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=4996772404

Every event (practice, game, tournament) will be in the calendar once schedule has been set in two weeks.

Please Check it daily as the coaches change it almost daily!  Don’t make us call you…the responsibility is yours.

Scheduling

By March 7th I need a complete list of days that you absolutely can’t be available.  This is needed for the scheduling weekend so we don’t book games when we can’t field a team.

List your proms, grads, major exams, surgeries, etc.

Registration

If you have not registered, download the forms from www.viewroyalfastball.ca and send cheques to me.

If you have not paid your $25 B team tryout fee, send it to me.

Tournaments

Here’s the plan.  We are signed up for the first 3 for sure.

Apr 30 - May 2: North Delta
May 14-16th: View Royal
May 28-30th: Langford
June 5-6th: Mt Vernon Washington
Districts: June 26-27th
Provincials: July 9-10th - Sicamous

For the Washington State one we need to know if anyone does NOT have a valid passport.  If you don’t you may be able to get an enhanced driver’s licence or id card in time.  Get back to us asap.

Fundraising

Dale and I have raised the first $1000 which covers the first set of tournaments.  We need to step it up.

We need a volunteers to organize:

·         a bottle drive – (create flyers, canvas neighbourhoods, contact Bottle Depot and get their fundraising kit) etc.

·         an advertising page for the Times Colonist (I have TC contact but need people to chase down businesses and sell squares for the ad

·         other stuff you can do to make cash (e.g. liquor store beg for change, bingo, lottery tix etc.)

We need the team and parents to step up….the coach’s can’t do this .  If you don’t want to fundraise, expect to pay.

Hotel Coordinator(s)

Janet Webb did a fantastic job last year!   I vote she do it again, but if she’s not able to due to work committments, we need someone to step into the role.

Food Fund

As we did last year, everyone will kick in $50 to pay for water/Gatorade and tournament food.  Give cheque to Marla Hunt made out to View Royal Raiders.    For the new players, we always have a water and Gatorade at games.  You need to bring your own to practice.

Uniforms

Talk to Marla.

Contact Sheet

That’s it for now.   Thanks
