SUMMARY

Lyons has had 2 parallel careers:

·         Designing and building large scale e-learning projects in developed and developing countries;

·         Designing and implementing therapy projects for crime victims and others. 

He has worked in the UK, the USA, and India.  He now divides his time between UK and India.

He is a Visiting Fellow at the Royal Institution of Great Britain.

E-Learning

·         Tara Akshar: the most successful literacy program in India – 60,000 completely illiterate women from the age of 8 to 80 have been taught to read and write.  Lyons led the building of the program from concept and design through to implementation and maintenance.  The program has been running since 2006 and had up to 300 learning centres concurrently across the country. The program was nominated for the UNESCO International Literacy Prize and was a finalist in this year’s Buckminster Fuller Challenge.  It has been successfully piloted by the Indian Government.  It has been adopted as “Best Practice” by the Indian Government. 

·         ReadingWise life-skills programs: for unemployed youths in India funded by the Indian Ministry of Rural Development.  The project has place thousands of youths in jobs.  Lyons led the instructional design and secured a 3 year contract for the programs.

Therapy

Lyons co-founded a therapy service for PTSD-affected crime victims in South London which ran successfully from 1995 onwards. The service was implemented by the Home Office-funded service Victim Support.

This service was copied in Miami which Lyons helped set up – a therapy service for PTSD-affected crime victims and domestic violence victims which has run successfully from 1996 to the present day. 

Lyons has been a counselor in private practice specializing in mental trauma and depression for 25 years.

He has trained interns in mental trauma therapy at Jamia Islamia University in Delhi.

He has produced a protocol for curing depression for which he is currently seeking funding for a research study.

Other IT projects

·         Juniors: The complete UK English, Maths and Science primary school curriculum online, nominated for a UK BETT award

·      MerchandiZer: Lyons initiated and designed this e-commerce program, which was awarded PC Magazine Editors Choice Award for best e-commerce shopping cart program in the USA.

·         Finale: Lyons designed and built this Insurance agency back-office compliance system, which had the largest market share in the UK at its peak.
