Sediment - Exploring The Layers of Victoria Park

New location based magazine available now for your iPhone and Android phone

Take a walk and let your phone give you fresh insights into your surroundings.

That's the idea behind Sediment, an ongoing project by local multimedia artist David Smith.

Sediment presents a series of GPS interactive walks that can be used on mobile devices. They are set in Victoria Park in south Bristol. Over the past four years the walks have been available during the Art on the Hill, Windmill Hill/Victoria Park art trails. Now David in the process of transferring them over to the Apple iPhone and Android phones, thanks to an exciting new program called AppFurnace available from local interactive company Calvium (www.appfurnace.com).

The first walk is available to download now. It focusses on the Victoria Park Action Group (VPAG) and the the community that surrounds the park and is available to download now. The walk itself works in a similar way to TomTom. The GPS signal follows you and as you enter predefined regions interviews you can hear about the work of VPAG from member Andrew Campbell, and discover more about Mrs Brown's Cafe from owners, Emily and Elliot. Also included will be the latest news from the park, including the dates of VPAG events as they become available.

Further walks will be available later this year, including a fascinating look at the early history of the park by local historian Barb Drummond, presenting the events, features and landscapes that helped to shape the park.
