New Picnic Tables in Park

posted 23 Mar 2011 02:21 by Claire Fenwick   [ updated 26 Apr 2011 02:54 ]
Three new picnic table and bench sets have arrived in Victoria Park, thanks to grant funding secured by VPAG.
The group was awarded £859.85 by ARISE, the Alliance to Reward Initiatives and Social Enterprise, and Bristol City Council is contributing £220 to the project.
As well as buying the three table and bench sets, the grant funding will also pay for them to be fixed onto concrete bases in the park. Bristol City Council will build the bases and install the tables in April.
One of the tables will be placed in the Under-8’s Play Area near the Park Lodge, and a second in the Natural Play Area near St Luke’s Road. The third table will be sited under some shady trees roughly halfway between the other two.
All three tables have been treated with preservative and will be maintained by volunteers from VPAG as part of the group’s annual bench maintenance work.
VPAG member Andrew Campbell said: “The need for picnic tables in the park was identified during consultation by VPAG with local residents in 2008.
“We have sited all the tables in attractive spots under shady trees. We hope that this will encourage families to use the park more often for picnics.”
The ARISE initiative is backed by Land Securities Group plc and Hammerson plc, the two property companies involved in the development of Cabot Circus. It is designed to support activities that benefit the local community, and groups or organisations can apply for awards of up to £1,000.
