Renegades Pride & Power (May 19-21): The 94's won five straight round robin games before the tourmament was cancelled just prior to the playoff round. Saturday's results included run rule games against the Delta Heat (9-1 in four innings) and RM Pride 95 (10-0 in three innings) before an 8-7 seventh inning come from behnd victory over the South Delta Invaders. Sunday included another come from behind victory, a 6-5 win over the Surrey Storm 95 team, and a 6-1 win over the Kelowna Heat. The team was one of three teams that finished the 15 team Round Robin undefeated. With a lot of high school proms and exams, the next tournament won't be until the end of June. However, the team will keep on top of their game by playing at home in the Hyacinth Women's league until they are ready to go on the road again (as high school graduates).
Softball City Spring Classic (April 28-29): The team continued to get into the groove early in the season by playing in six games over the weekend. On Saturday, the 94's had wins over Abbotsford Outlaws (5-2) and Surrey Storm 95A (5-2) before t+ying the White Rock Renegades 95 team 2-2. In Sunday's playoff round, the Devils beat South Surrey Thunder (5-0) and then beat the Renegades 95 team in a rematch (6-1) to reach the final. After going up 6-0, the 94's ended up losing in the seventh by a score of 9-8 to the Renegade 94's for the second place finish. Great early season performance for the team considering they are not at full strength yet.
North Delta Icebreaker, April 7: The team had three games in North Delta to start off the season. The 94's had wins over Fraser Valley Fusion 94 and Surrey Storm 95B before losing to the White Rock Renegades 94 team 3-1 in the final game of the day. It was great to get back at it.

The Victoria Fastball Club will be hosting the 2012 U18 Provincials at View Royal and Hyacinth Parks. This means that the 94 Devils will be playing in front of their home town crowd where they have achieved some success in the past. In 2008, the team placed second at the Peewee Provincials in View Royal before claiming a Bronze medal at Nationals in Montreal. In 2010, the team hosted and played very well at the Bantam Canadian Championships but just missed the podium with a fourth place finish. After qualifying for the Midget Canadians in Winnipeg last year as a first year team, they are now aiming to qualify for a fourth Canadian Championship (unprecedented in Victoria) with a goal of winning it all.

The 94's have one more tryout scheduled for Saturday, September 17th from 1:00-2:30 at View Royal. Players should show up between 12:30 and 12:45 to register and warm up. Players must have attended at least one of the two scheduled tryouts to be considered for the 2012 squad. If you did not attend the first tryout on September 10th and can not make the final scheduled tryout on September 17th, you can request a personal tryout if you contact our head coach BEFORE this weekend. You can contact Bruce at bruce-hometowon@shaw.ca

The season finished up at the U19 Canadian Championships in Winnipeg for the 94 Devils. After digging ourselves into a hole by losing the first three games, we found out after winning the next four the hole was too big to dig out of. The team played some very good ball during that four game stretch with wins over Quebec (7-0), Red Deer (8-1), Scarborough (8-4), and Brampton (8-1) but the earlier losses to the Smitty's Terminators of Winnipeg (9-4), Regina (6-3) and Saskatoon (3-2) weren't the best showings for the team who had a very successful season. The team ended up tied for 9th place out of the 18 team field which was very respectable considering they were the youngest of a three year age division.
The team would like to thank all of the coaches, parents and sponsors (including Miles Plumbing) who have helped financially and with fan support this season. Again, a very good season to put into the books heading into our final season of minor ball next year.

The 94 Devils won a silver medal in the U19 (Midget) Provincials this past weekend. The second place finish clinched a spot in the U19 Canadian Championships being held from August 14-21 in Winnipeg. After going 3-1 and in third place after the pool round, the team won three of the next five in the playoff round (losing twice to the eventual champion Surrey Storm 93 team) to win the Silver medal. 13 of the best teams in the Province competed in the Championships and while a second place finish is impressive, it is even more impressive considering they were a first year team in a three year age division. Great job team |

Canadian Open (July 11-17): After a slow start the 94's started to play some better ball before their tournament was cancelled due to the weather. Needing three wins to get into the Championship Round, the Canadian Open organizers decided to end Pool Play which meant having our last game cancelled on us. A win in that last pool game would have clinched a berth in the Championship playoffs. It was very disappointing considering we were in the toughest pool and the hardest games were behind us. Then kicking us while we were down (but on a roll), they decided to cancel our Consolation Round when the weather didn't improve letting only the Championship Round continue. The tournament started on Tuesday with a 5-4 loss to the Saskatoon Selects and a 4-0 loss to the Brazil Junior National Team. Wednesday's results were a 3-2 extra inning win against the Delta Heat and a 7-0 loss to the California Worth Firecrackers (who are probably a top ten team in the US). Thursday's fifth and last pool game was a 5-4 come from behind victory over the Richmond Islanders 93 squad and then Friday's lone playoff game was a 12-3 win under the lights against Delta Heat. Next up is our U19 Provinical Championships at Softball City this weekend.
Oregon Valley Invitational (June 19-20): In a repeat of their 2010 result, after going 2-1 in the seeding pool (losing only losing to the eventual Second place Oregon Blaze team), the team ended up winning the Upper Silver Bracket of the 64 team tournament. After losing their first game against a strong team from Utah, the Devils won four straight games to win their bracket. Playoff bracket wins over the Salem Inferno (2-0), Alaska Storm (5-3) and Fraser Valley Fusion (7-2) set up a see saw battle against the Portland Lobos team. The Devils jumped out to a 5-1 lead before giving up 5 runs in the second to go down 6-5. The offense then ignited for six more runs for the 11-6 Championship victory.
Renegades Pride & Power (May 20-22): The 94's completed the Five Game Round Robin in third place with a 4-1 record. Pretty good considering one of the three pitchers couldn't throw on the weekend. The two remaining pitchers picked up the slack by pitching all five games in the two days. Playoff Monday was short as the team lost their only playoff game to the Calgary Kodiaks 7-3. The team came out flat and was beaten 7-3 to the better team on the day (the 94's had beaten then in the first contest on Sunday but couldn't duplicate the win). Next up is the Oregon Invitational in June. The team's goal is to get 100% healthy for the Hillsboro, Oregon Recruiting tournament.
Seattle Sidewinder (April 30-May1): The 94's completed their first day of play with a 3-0 record. The first game was a 5-0 shutout of the 18U Mosquito Squad that saw the two Devils pitchers combine for a no-hitter. The two hurlers threw for 13 strikeouts against three walks and Emily Newman lead the offense with two home runs. The second game was a 3-1 win over the 18U Bellevue Blast team and the third game was an 11-0 win over the 18U Gold Washington Phoenix team. The tournament concluded on Sunday with a 7-6 loss to the 18U Washington Hustle and a 4-3 win over the 18U Gold Washington Illusion team. Overall the team went 4-1 which was very respectable considering the teams were one and two years older.
Renegades Icebreaker (April 16): The 94's played a triple header for the second straight Saturday. This time traveling to Softball City in White Rock to take on three Midget A teams. The first game was a 3-1 loss to the older Renegade 93 team, the second was a 4-2 win over the Kelowna Heat and the final game was an 8-2 win over the Pride from Ridge Meadows. Facing a little tougher pitching then last week, the team still managed to scatter 22 hits in the three games. The pitching staff also did a great job this past weekend. After striking out only four batters combined in the three games last week, the pitching trio kept the ball out of play a bit more by striking out 14 batters in the three games this past week.
North Delta Icebreaker (April 9): The season finally got underway this past weekend. The 94's won all three of their games at the North Delta Icebreaker. The long winter didn't seem to hurt their bats as they belted out 41 hits over the three games and sported a .526 team batting average. The first game was a 17-2 win over the Delta Heat, the middle contest was a 13-0 win over the Okanagon Gold and the final game was an 11-4 win over Fraser Valley Fusion. Next up is the Renegades Icebreaker at Softball City next week.
