Fastball has been a part of Nelson's life since the early 1960's in Alberta where he was both a player and on the Executive of Edmonton Mens Fastball League and an Umpire in the Edmonton Umpires Association. In 1971 he relocated to the Lower Mainland and began his Association with the Poco Minor Fastball both as a Coach and as the President from 1974 to 1980. He also continued to play ball in the Poco Mens Fastball League and was the League President from 1984 to 1986 . After 30 years involvement with Poco Minor Softball and the Ravens , Nelson once again relocated, this time to Victoria. He immediatley began coaching - this time with Langford Lightning and then with the Victoria Fastball Club. He became President of the Victoria Fastball Club in 2008 a position he continues to hold. Upon his arrival in Victoria he also became a staff member of the Lambrick Softball Academy who provide on the field instruction and a deeper insight to the game through science and sport classes.
