Zee Smith of the 94 Devils will become the first VFC athlete  to play Div 1 Pac 12 softball next year when she joins the Stanford Cardinals on a scholarship.

We would like to congratulate Mckenzie and the entire Smith family on this amazing accomplishment.

How it happened:

Not long after Mckenzie’s “softball resume” arrived at Stanford,  Softball Associate Head Coach Trisha Ford came to Colorado to watch her play in 2010.  Soon after, Ford began exchanging e-mails with Mckenzie, and in January 2011, “Zee” went to a two day softball camp at Stanford.  At the end of the camp, Head Coach John Rittman told Mckenzie he wanted her to be part of their program.  In the following weeks Stanford made a verbal offer to Mckenzie, which she accepted.  Mckenzie worked very hard to meet the high academic standard required for admission to Stanford, and in October, 2011, she was accepted.  Mckenzie made her official visit to Stanford in early November, and on November 9th, she signed her National Letter of Intent, officially accepting the scholarship offer, and committing to play for Stanford.  Mckenzie is grateful for the excellent coaching and support she has received from the Lambrick Park Baseball and Softball Diamond for Excellence Academy,  the Victoria Fastball Club, and all the people who have helped her reach this milestone in her young career.
